A few useful
things to know.
The practical details before you get in touch.
Who can join?
Any New Zealand farmer can enquire. Waikato and Bay of Plenty farms are preferred for visits. We select farms where we can work well together; an enquiry does not guarantee a place.
How long is it free?
For up to a year while you actively take part in development: regular use by you or your team, reporting issues and feature use, and arranged feedback discussions. We’ll agree the details before you join. Longer-term feature trials will be by invitation.
Do I need a drone map?
No. LINZ aerial imagery is available as standard. A properly captured drone aerial can provide more detail and better positional accuracy. Suitable local trial farms may receive one by arrangement; it is not automatic.
How much help is available?
As much or as little as you want with setup and use. Trial farms have email and direct phone support. Visits depend on location. DatumEdge Ltd owns Batten and provides the help.
Can I upload an existing drone aerial?
Yes. Upload a GeoTIFF. Batten prepares it for web use and crops it around your selected boundaries, with an offset. You can then trace paddocks and add farm features.
Can support staff see my farm data?
Our staff need your approval through the application, or an accepted invitation, to access your farm data to help you.
What happens if I leave?
Paddock and mapping information remains linked to the land parcels so you can return later. Jobs and their photos are deleted when the job is completed. If Batten does not continue beyond the trial, we can provide a PDF of the farm map created for you. Full data arrangements will be set out in the trial agreement.
What will it cost later?
Subscription pricing will be confirmed after the initial trials. Mapping and setup services after the trial will be quoted separately by DatumEdge. You do not commit to a paid subscription by enquiring.
Does it work on my phone?
Use Batten in the browser on your phone, tablet or computer with an internet connection. It is not an offline map.
What is Batten Safe?
We’re working on features to support people working alone. Batten Safe is not available yet and cannot be relied on for emergency alerts, monitoring or response.
Try it on your farm.
Help shape what comes next.
Free for up to a year while you use it regularly and contribute feedback. Start with a phone call, then a demo or a local farm visit.
